Bae Jun-ho furthered his case as South Korea’s post-Son Heung-min star with a dazzling display against Kuwait, recording two assists in a 4–0 victory that confirmed the national team’s unbeaten record in the Asian third-round qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Bae’s performance not only highlighted his growth at Stoke City but also intensified speculation about a summer transfer, with several Premier League clubs and Feyenoord reportedly interested in securing his services.

Key Contributions in Seoul
Operating on the left flank in place of the absent Son Heung-min, Bae delivered a dynamic attacking performance. He twice laid on crucial passes that led to goals—first setting up Lee Kang-in’s clinical finish before assisting Oh Hyeon-gyu’s strike just minutes later. He also rattled the crossbar with a powerful header in the first half, underlining his threat throughout the match.

“I feel a responsibility to score as a forward, but today I’m happy to have contributed with assists,” Bae told reporters after the match. “I approached the game determined to show what I can do, and it worked out well.”

Learning from Lee Kang-in
Bae, who rejoined the senior squad after a spell with the U-22s, credited Lee Kang-in as a key influence. “Lee Kang-in-hyung inspires us. He leads by example,” Bae said. “Playing and training with him teaches young players like me so much.”

Progress at Stoke City
Since arriving at Stoke City in August 2023, Bae has steadily grown in confidence and stature. He featured 40 times in the Championship last season, scoring two goals and earning the club’s Player of the Year award. This season (2024–25), he clocked 45 league appearances, adding three goals and further cementing his role as a vital first-team player.

Interest from Premier League and Europe
Bae’s form has not gone unnoticed. Multiple Premier League clubs are reportedly monitoring him closely, alongside Feyenoord and other top-flight European sides. With the 2026 World Cup fast approaching, the 21-year-old admitted that he would consider a move that would allow him to develop further at a higher level. “I’d leave Stoke for a bigger platform that helps me grow,” Bae said.

A Star on the Rise
As coach Hong Myung-bo continues to integrate younger players into the national team, Bae Jun-ho’s performance—marked by two assists and dynamic wing play—has cemented his status as one of South Korea’s brightest prospects. With Son Heung-min entering the later stages of his career, Bae’s development could be key to ensuring a seamless transition into the next generation of Korean footballing stars.
