Yokohama F. Marinos Make Official Move for Gwangju's Albanian Star Jasir Asani
Struggling J1 League side Yokohama F. Marinos have submitted an official offer for Gwangju FC's Albanian international winger Jasir Asani, according to a report by Japanese outlet Sponichi Annex. Negotiations are said to be progressing smoothly, with the 30-year-old emerging as a prime candidate to replace Brazilian forward Yan Matheus, who is reportedly nearing a move to Kashima Antlers.
Asani, a left-footed right winger, has garnered attention for his clinical finishing and thunderous long-range strikes. His standout performances in the inaugural AFC Champions League Elite (ACLE) campaign underscored his attacking credentials. Notably, he netted a hat-trick against Marinos themselves in the group stage opener, before finding the target again in matches against Kawasaki Frontale and Vissel Kobe. He finished the tournament with nine goals – tied for second-highest in the competition.
Yokohama, currently languishing at the bottom of the league table, are desperate to bolster their attacking options in a bid to steer clear of relegation. Asani's proven ability to deliver in high-stakes continental fixtures has convinced the club to make a concrete approach for the dynamic winger.
The potential signing would offer a much-needed injection of firepower and flair to a side that has struggled for goals this season. Should the deal be completed, Asani would bring not only an eye for goal but also vital experience and composure in the final third – assets Yokohama are sorely lacking at present.
Further developments are expected in the coming days as talks between the two clubs and the player’s camp continue.
