Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors have completed the signing of Ghanaian international winger Patrick Twumasi, marking another statement of attacking intent from the K League giants as they seek to reassert their domestic dominance.

The 31-year-old joins Jeonbuk after a well-travelled career that has seen him feature in top flights across Europe and Asia, bringing with him a reputation for blistering pace, direct dribbling, and a keen eye for goal. Twumasi has signed with the club ahead of the second half of the 2024/25 campaign and is expected to make an immediate impact, having recently completed a full season in Israel without fitness concerns.

Twumasi began his professional career in 2012 with Spartaks Jūrmala in Latvia, before making his name during a prolific spell with FC Astana in Kazakhstan. After two loan stints at the club, he joined Astana permanently in 2015, going on to score 53 goals and provide 32 assists across 143 appearances. His exploits earned him recognition at continental level, with appearances in both the UEFA Champions League and Europa League during his time in Kazakhstan’s most successful club.

His form in Astana caught the eye of the Ghana national team, for whom he made his senior debut in 2017. Twumasi has since earned three caps at international level, alongside appearances for Ghana’s U20 side, where he scored on debut.

In 2018, he made the leap to Spain’s La Liga with a move to Deportivo Alavés, gaining valuable experience in one of Europe’s elite leagues. A loan to Turkish Süper Lig side Gaziantep followed, where he notched 6 goals and 5 assists in 27 matches, before switching to Germany’s Hannover 96 in the 2. Bundesliga in 2020.

Over the past two seasons, Twumasi reignited his form in Israel with Maccabi Netanya, scoring 16 times in 48 matches, and most recently played for Beitar Jerusalem on loan from Cypriot outfit Pafos FC, where he featured in 38 matches and contributed 7 goals and 2 assists during the 2024/25 campaign.

In total, Twumasi arrives in Korea with an impressive haul of 121 goals and 55 assists from 385 club appearances across nine countries, underlining the experience and attacking instincts he will bring to Dan Petrescu’s side.

“I want to help the team win titles. It would make me extremely proud,” Twumasi said in his first statement after completing the move. “I’ll do my best to adapt quickly and aim to create something great with the team and my new teammates.”

Jeonbuk have confirmed that Twumasi has already joined full training and is match-fit, having played regularly up to the end of May. He will wear the number 21 shirt and is registered in the K League under the name ‘Twumasi’.

The club described the Ghanaian as a “lightning-quick winger with explosive dribbling,” and expects his arrival to inject much-needed dynamism and threat to their attack.

With Jeonbuk looking to climb back to the summit of Korean football, the addition of a seasoned international like Twumasi could prove to be a masterstroke as the club eyes silverware in the months ahead.
