Brazilian Forward Matheus Moraes Set to Join Suwon FC on Loan
Brazilian striker Matheus Moraes is on the verge of completing a move to South Korean club Suwon FC, according to a report from Globo Esporte, Brazil’s leading sports media outlet. The 25-year-old departed Brazil on Monday to travel to South Korea, where he is expected to finalise the deal and undergo a medical.
Moraes, who has been one of the standout performers for Maringá FC, will join Suwon FC on an initial loan deal valid until the end of the 2025 season. The agreement includes an option to make the transfer permanent once the loan expires.
Loan Deal Follows Failed Permanent Transfer Attempts
Initial discussions between the two clubs centred around a full transfer, but negotiations ultimately led to a loan structure with a potential future purchase clause. Earlier this month, Maringá had extended Moraes' contract until December 2028, hoping to capitalise on growing interest from both Série A and Série B sides in Brazil.
Several domestic clubs, including Vitória, Bahia, Bragantino, Athletico Paranaense, and Coritiba, had expressed interest in signing Moraes. However, none of the proposals matched Maringá’s reported asking price of R$ 5 million (approximately €850,000). Athletico even attempted to sign him on loan, but their offer was rejected.
Moraes’ Rise with Maringá
Since joining Maringá in 2023, Moraes has experienced the best spell of his professional career. He currently leads the club in scoring with 11 goals and has added one assist this season. His form helped Maringá gain promotion from Série D last year, contributing three goals and two assists in 18 appearances during that campaign.
A product of Santos’ youth academy, Moraes made his professional debut with Maringá in 2021. He briefly spent time with Londrina in 2022 but did not feature in an official match.
Suwon FC’s Struggles and Brazilian Contingent
Moraes arrives at a challenging time for Suwon FC, who are currently second-bottom in the K League with just 16 points from 19 matches. The club is looking to strengthen its attacking options as it battles relegation in the second half of the season.
Suwon FC’s squad already features two other Brazilians: forward Anderson Oliveira, formerly of Londrina and Goiás, and midfielder Luan Dias, who previously played for Santos and Guarani.
Moraes is expected to join them soon, adding firepower and a proven goal threat to a side desperate to climb out of the relegation zone in the K League.
