Former FC Porto prospect brings over 250 matches of experience in Portugal’s top two tiers

have completed the signing of Portuguese winger Rúben Macedo, as the K League 2 side continues its recruitment drive aimed at strengthening their attacking options for the second half of the season.

The 28-year-old wide man arrives from CD Nacional, where he featured in 27 matches during the 2024/25 campaign, registering a goal and an assist. Known for his lively dribbling and technical quality, Macedo is expected to add a direct threat on either flank for the Changwon-based outfit.

Born and raised in Portugal, Macedo came through the ranks at FC Porto’s prestigious academy and made his professional debut for Porto B. His senior career spans more than 250 appearances across Portugal’s Primeira Liga and Liga Portugal 2, including top-flight spells with clubs such as Chaves, Aves, and Marítimo.

A dynamic winger with a low centre of gravity, Macedo is particularly effective in one-on-one situations, often using short, sharp bursts of acceleration and close control to beat defenders. In addition to his dribbling prowess, he has been praised for his ability to link up with teammates and deliver incisive passes in the final third.

He also boasts extensive experience at youth international level, having represented Portugal at various age groups.

Macedo reunites at Gyeongnam with former Nacional teammate Bruno Costa, who joined the club earlier this month. The duo’s familiarity and understanding from their time in Madeira could prove invaluable as Gyeongnam seek to sharpen their attacking edge during the promotion run-in.

Speaking after completing his medical on Thursday, Macedo expressed his enthusiasm for the move:
"I’m excited to take on this new challenge in Korea. I’ll do everything I can to help the team succeed, using my strengths on the pitch to support the manager’s vision."

He is expected to join full training immediately as he prepares to make his K League debut in the coming weeks.
