Los Angeles FC are considering Ange Postecoglou as a candidate to take over as head coach, as the Major League Soccer club prepares for the departure of current manager Steve Cherundolo at the end of the season.

Cherundolo, who guided LAFC to the MLS Cup title in 2022, is set to return to Germany — the country where he spent the majority of his playing career with Hannover 96 — once the current MLS campaign concludes in October. LAFC currently sit sixth in the Western Conference, within the MLS play-off positions.

Postecoglou, 58, has been without a role since his high-profile dismissal from Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month, despite having delivered the club’s first major silverware in 17 years with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final in Bilbao.

The Australian tactician was relieved of his duties just 16 days after that historic triumph, following a dismal Premier League season in which Spurs finished 17th — narrowly avoiding relegation in a campaign plagued by inconsistency and injuries. He was swiftly replaced by former Brentford manager Thomas Frank.

Postecoglou’s brief but eventful tenure at Tottenham began with considerable optimism, as his expansive style of football and confident demeanour won over both players and fans. However, Spurs' domestic form collapsed in the latter stages of the campaign, leaving the board with little choice but to act decisively.

The former Celtic boss, who guided the Scottish giants to a domestic treble in 2022–23 before making the switch to North London, is reportedly weighing up his next move. In addition to LAFC’s interest, Postecoglou has also been linked with a potential role in the Saudi Pro League, where Asian Champions League holders Al Ahli are said to be monitoring his availability. The Jeddah-based club have been managed by German coach Matthias Jaissle since July 2023, though questions over his long-term future persist.

LAFC’s pursuit of a high-profile successor to Cherundolo comes as the club continues its push for post-season contention, aiming to recapture the form that saw them lift their first MLS Cup two years ago. With Postecoglou boasting experience in Japan, Australia, Scotland, and England, he would bring both a global pedigree and an attacking philosophy that aligns with LAFC’s ambitions.

No formal approach has been made at this stage, but sources suggest Postecoglou is open to returning to the touchline — provided the project is right.
