Sheffield United Eye Red Star's Seol Young-woo Amid Rising Interest
Korean Full-Back Attracting Championship Attention
Sheffield United have expressed interest in Red Star Belgrade(Crvena zvezda)'s versatile full-back Seol Young-woo, according to reports from Serbian outlets Sportissimo and Telegraf. The South Korean international has emerged as one of the most closely watched players in the Serbian SuperLiga following a standout debut campaign in Europe.
Seol joined Red Star last summer from K League champions Ulsan Hyundai for a reported fee of €1.5 million. His performances under head coach Vladan Milojević have earned plaudits for their consistency, intelligence, and adaptability—qualities that have not gone unnoticed in England.
Negotiations Delayed Until After UEFA Champioms League Qualifiers
Sheffield United are said to be in the early stages of evaluating the terms of a possible move, but Red Star have made it clear that no talks will take place before the club completes its UEFA Champions League qualifying campaign in August.
Transfermarkt currently values the 25-year-old at €4.5 million, though Red Star (Crvena zvezda) could demand more. Seol is under contract until 2027, with an optional one-year extension, placing the Serbian side in a strong negotiating position.
Al Ain Interest and Potential Replacement at Red Star (Crvena zvezda)
This isn’t the first time Seol has attracted attention. Back in May, UAE giants Al Ain were reportedly considering a move for the Korean full-back, although no official bid was submitted at the time.
Red Star’s willingness to entertain offers may depend on their success in bringing back Ognjen Mimović from Fenerbahçe. While negotiations are still ongoing, a breakthrough could make Seol’s departure more feasible.
Following in the Footsteps of Hwang In-beom
Seol's trajectory is beginning to resemble that of compatriot Hwang In-beom, who played a pivotal role in Red Star’s UEFA Champions League qualification last season before moving to Feyenoord. Similarly, Seol has adapted quickly to European football and become integral to Red Star’s setup, providing both attacking thrust and defensive solidity on either flank.
Though interest from England is growing, Seol is said to be content with his current situation and is not actively pushing for a move. Red Star, for their part, are reluctant to lose a key asset—but as with many summer stories, much could depend on the outcomes of multiple moving parts in the weeks ahead.
