St. Louis City set to sign South Korean forward Jeong Sang-Bin from Minnesota United
St. Louis City are on the verge of signing attacker Jeong Sang-Bin on a permanent deal from Minnesota United, according to CBS Sports’ Tom Bogert. The 24-year-old South Korean is expected to join in a cash trade once the MLS secondary transfer window opens on 24 July.
Green card paves way for move
Jeong recently completed his U.S. green card process, clearing the way for his transfer without occupying an international roster slot. That development appears to have accelerated negotiations with St. Louis, who have been actively looking to bolster their squad amid a difficult 2025 campaign.
The forward has been left out of Minnesota’s recent matchday squad, alongside defender Devin Padelford, who is also expected to move to St. Louis on loan as part of a separate deal.
Mixed spell in Minnesota
Jeong joined Minnesota United from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2023 and has made 84 appearances for the Loons. While he showed glimpses of promise—most notably during the 2024 season, when he tallied six goals and three assists over 2,180 minutes—his role has diminished in recent months. This season, he has managed only 309 minutes in the league and has fallen out of the regular starting XI.
St. Louis seeking solutions in attack
Currently 14th in the Western Conference, St. Louis City have endured a frustrating 2025 season, with injuries depleting their depth in several key areas. The club are banking on Jeong to inject pace, movement, and finishing quality in the final third as they aim to mount a late-season revival.
St. Louis manager Bradley Carnell has prioritised reinforcing the attack, and Jeong’s MLS experience and versatility across the front line make him a logical addition.
A new challenge
At 24, Jeong remains a player of potential. Once a promising prospect at Suwon Samsung Bluewings and a brief Wolverhampton signing, he also earned a senior cap for South Korea in 2021. A move to St. Louis offers him a fresh start and an opportunity to re-establish himself as a consistent performer in Major League Soccer.
With the deal set to be finalised later this month, Jeong becomes the latest in a growing list of Korean players making their mark in American football—this time in a city looking for momentum, goals, and a turnaround in fortunes.
