Former K League Star Tiago Alves Returns to Korea with Jeju SK
Jeju SK have announced the signing of Brazilian winger Tiago Alves as their latest reinforcement in a bid to climb the K League 1 standings. The 32-year-old forward, a familiar face in Korean football, rejoins the league after several seasons abroad, bringing with him a proven record and valuable experience.
Tiago first made his mark in Korea with Pohang Steelers in 2015 before enjoying a breakout season with Seongnam FC in 2016, where he scored 13 goals and provided five assists in just 19 appearances during the first half of the campaign. His explosive performances earned him a mid-season transfer to Saudi Arabian giants Al Hilal — a move that underlined his growing reputation across Asia.
Though his time with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in 2018–2019 was less prolific, Tiago’s overall K League record stands as a testament to his ability to contribute in the final third. In total, he has featured in 45 K League 1 matches, registering 19 goal contributions.
The well-travelled Brazilian has since added to his résumé with stints in Japan — at Sagan Tosu, Gamba Osaka and Fagiano Okayama — as well as spells in Brazil and, most recently, Thailand, where he played for Uthai Thani FC.
Jeju SK’s decision to bring in Tiago is aimed at strengthening their attacking unit, especially as the club looks to build on recent momentum. Brazilian compatriot Pedrinho’s two-assist performance against Anyang signalled renewed attacking intent, and Tiago is expected to complement that with his pace, skill, and clinical finishing.
Head coach Kim Hak-bum, who previously managed Tiago during his Seongnam FC days, expressed confidence in the player’s ability to deliver once more.
“Tiago has excellent shooting and speed. Some may question his recent journey through several clubs, but I’m convinced we can recreate that spark again. If he contributes with goals and assists like he did before, the team will benefit greatly,” Kim said.
Tiago himself welcomed the return to Korean football with optimism.
“It feels great to be back in the K League, especially with a strong team like Jeju SK,” he said. “Reuniting with a coach who truly understands me is an added bonus. I know the expectations are high, and I’m ready to show what I can do.”
He added: “At this point in my career, I understand the importance of consistency and leadership. I want to be someone who contributes both on and off the pitch.”
With the K League 1 season entering a crucial phase, Jeju SK will be counting on Tiago’s experience and flair to help turn their campaign around.
