Newcastle United have secured the signing of highly-rated South Korean winger Park Seung-soo from K League 2 outfit Suwon Bluewings, in a move that underlines the club’s growing emphasis on global talent recruitment.

The 18-year-old joins the Magpies’ Academy set-up and will initially link up with the club’s under-21 squad as he begins his development in English football.

Park, a left-footed wide forward known for his direct running and technical flair, made headlines in his homeland last year when he became the youngest goalscorer in the history of South Korean professional football. He netted in a 1-1 draw against Ansan Greeners in June 2024 at just 17 years old, breaking a longstanding K League record.

A product of Suwon’s academy, Park made 28 senior appearances for the club across all competitions, contributing one goal and three assists. He has also been capped five times for South Korea at under-20 level.

Speaking to the club’s official channels, Park expressed his delight at joining Newcastle:

“It’s a huge honour to join Newcastle United. It’s a big step for me and I feel incredibly thankful for the faith the club have shown in me. I’m excited to develop here, learn from the coaches, and give everything to become the best player I can be.”

Academy Director Steve Harper hailed Park’s arrival as a significant addition to the club’s youth ranks.

“Park is an exciting young talent with real potential,” said Harper. “He’s already shown maturity beyond his years in a competitive environment and we’re delighted to welcome him to the club.

“His signing reflects our commitment to identifying and developing elite talent from across the globe and credit must go to our recruitment network, who continue to do an excellent job in identifying talented young players who have the potential to thrive here.”

Park joins a growing group of emerging prospects at Newcastle, with the Magpies Academy having produced several first-team contributors in recent seasons. The club will hope the Korean teenager can follow in similar footsteps and eventually make an impact at senior level.

His arrival comes at a time when Premier League sides are increasingly casting a wide net in the search for young, high-upside talent from non-traditional markets. Park will now begin his integration into English football, with fans in both Tyneside and Korea watching his journey with interest.
