The champion of the Singapore Premier League has been confirmed. Lion City Sailors FC won the championship trophy.
Lion City Sailors FC won 4-1 against Balestier Khalsa FC on October 10.
Lion City Sailors FC topped the Singapore Premier League with 14 wins, 6 draws, 1 loss, and 48 points. Albirex Niigata Singapore has 46 points.
The Singapore Premier League has eight teams. Each team plays 21 games in a season and determines the winning team through the league's final results.
There are two reasons why this victory is special for Lion City Sailors FC. Lion City Sailors FC became Singapore's champion for the first time in 18 years since its predecessor, Home United, won in 2003. It is the first championship since it was re-established as Lion City Sailors FC.
Kim Do-hoon, a manager from South Korea, played a great role in the championship. Last season, he led Ulsan Hyundai to win the Asian Football Confederation Champions League. And in Singapore, he took on a new challenge with Lion City Retailers FC and won the championship in his first year.
