Tokyo Olympic star Lee Dong-Gyeong is once again attempting to advance to the European league.

According to sources, Schalke 04 of Germany's 2. Bundesliga is interested in signing a contract with South Korean international midfielder Lee Dong-Gyeong.

His team Ulsan Hyundai will allow him to move to Europe if an appropriate proposal comes.

Lee Dong-Gyeong also came close to moving to the European league in September 2020.

He agreed to a contract with Portuguese club Boavista, but it broke down at the end during the consultation process.

Born in 1997, Lee Dong-kyung is a left-footed midfielder.

He started his professional career at Ulsan Hyundai in 2018 and gained experience by playing K League 2 games at FC Anyang.

After returning to Ulsan in the 2019 season, Lee Dong-kyung, who played as a key player and scored four goals and two assists in 28 games, made headlines in September 2019 when head coach Paulo Bento selected the Korean senior international team.

Lee Dong-Gyeong, who negotiated with the U.S. Major League Soccer Club Vancouver White Caps in January 2020, has been steadily rumored to be transferred.

Lee Dong-Gyeong, whose Boavista contract was canceled in October 2020, failed to participate in the AFC Champions League, which Ulsan won.

Lee Dong-Gyeong, who was called up for South Korea's under-23 international team at the Tokyo Olympics in the summer of 2021, scored a fantastic shot in the quarterfinals against Mexico and was called Lionel Messi of South Korea by Mexican media.

In fact, Korean football experts say Lee Dong-Gyeong's left foot is the strongest in Asia. He has a threatening left-footed shot than Lee Kang-in, who is currently playing in Mallorca in La Liga, Spain.

Lee Dong-Gyeong, who has been steadily receiving attention from European clubs and J League clubs, is dreaming of another challenge in 2022.

One of the multiple teams connected to Lee Dong-Gyeong was identified as German big club Schalke 04, which has consistently shown interest in Asian players.

Schalke 04 is fourth with 30 points in Germany's 2. Bundesliga in the 2021-22 season, which lasted until the 18th round. It has the same points as Hamburg in third place, and five points difference from No. 1 St. Pauli. It aims to return to the first division.
