There are rumors of Son Heung-min being released again.

This time, Son Heung-min is not the only one leaving. It is expected that all three of the newly formed captains, including Christian Romero and James Maddison, will be replaced after Harry Kane left in the summer of 2023 and Hugo Lloris was treated as an out-of-competition player.

It is likely that Son Heung-min, who is struggling with Tottenham Hotspur's poor performance, will be the first to become a scapegoat.

It is no exaggeration to say that the captains are key players in the current squad, so if they are all released, the entire squad can be overhauled and started over.

Tottenham is currently ranked 13th out of 20 clubs in the English Premier League. In addition, they were eliminated in the round of 32 and the semifinals of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, respectively.

The only hope left is the UEFA Europa League. They are currently playing against Dutch club AZ Alkmaar, but lost the first away match 0-1. The second match will be held at the home stadium at 5 AM on the 14th. If they fail to beat Alkmaar by more than 2 goals, they will be eliminated.

In this situation, the 'purge' scenario of the Tottenham captains has emerged.

'Tottenham Hotspur News', a media outlet specializing in Tottenham news, said on the 13th (Korean time), "In a situation where the future of Tottenham coach Anzhi Postecoglou is unclear, Chairman Daniel Levy plans to reorganize the team this summer as a new starting point," and "It seems inevitable that some players will leave."

Then, they named 3 transfer targets, including Son Heung-min. The previous reports that announced the list of players who were to be released by Tottenham were players who anyone would think were right to leave Tottenham.

These players include Timo Werner, who is on loan, Briand Hill, who is on loan, and Richarlison, who has caused enormous damage to the team due to injuries and is no longer able to recover the principal and must at least reduce his salary.

This report is different. All players who serve as captain or vice-captain and provide leadership to the team are on the chopping block. Son Heung-min is also a target.

Son Heung-min has been loved by fans for his outstanding skills and loyalty to the team for 10 years, but it is true that he has been in a slump this season due to the controversy over the 'aging curve'.

Even so, he has not shown a sharp decline in skills or a lack of leadership to the extent of being released, but the media was the first to mention Son Heung-min's release.

The media said, "Son Heung-min, who is currently 32 years old, recorded 7 goals and 9 assists in 25 league games this season. His performance is still good, but he is showing a decline compared to past seasons." "Son Heung-min is one of the players receiving the highest salary in Tottenham. There are questions about whether he is performing as well as expected compared to the cost the club is spending on him," explaining the reason why Tottenham will sell Son Heung-min.

Son Heung-min signed a four-year contract with Tottenham in 2021 and extended it for another year for the same amount in January. His annual salary is about 18 billion won. With Kane and Lloris leaving, he is now Tottenham's highest-paid player.
