Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae is reportedly open to a fresh challenge this summer, amid growing interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Sources have indicated that, contrary to reports from Foot Mercato and Sky Germany, the South Korean’s representatives have yet to hold formal talks with either Chelsea or Newcastle United.

That said, there is genuine interest from the likes of Chelsea, Newcastle, and Juventus, as widely reported across the European media in recent weeks.

German journalist Christian Falk of Bild has also confirmed that Manchester United are among the sides keeping a close watch on Kim’s situation.

However, according to a European football insider who spoke to Football Asian, other major clubs across Europe have also made initial enquiries regarding a potential move for the 27-year-old.

It is understood that Kim is not keen on a return to Italy and would prefer a new challenge in a league he has yet to experience.

At present, the most likely destination appears to be a Premier League club capable of matching both Bayern’s reported €45 million  asking price and Kim’s current high wages in Germany.

In addition to Chelsea, Newcastle and Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal are also believed to be monitoring the situation closely. A third Premier League club could yet emerge as a contender, should they secure Champions League qualification for next season.

Despite enduring a difficult season at Bayern, Kim remains one of the most highly regarded centre-backs on the market this summer, thanks to his pace, physicality, and extensive top-level experience.

Bayern, who are aiming to streamline their squad and finances, are reportedly willing to part ways with both Kim and Dayot Upamecano. Should they move on, Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah, Bournemouth’s Dean  Huijsen, and Japan international Ko Itakura are among the names being considered as replacements. Meanwhile, Eric Dier is expected to sign a new deal at the Allianz Arena.
