South Korean midfielder Wooyeong Jeong has solidified his place in the Bundesliga by making his loan move to 1. FC Union Berlin permanent. The 25-year-old, who initially joined Union on loan from VfB Stuttgart in August 2024, has impressed the club enough to secure a long-term deal.

Jeong's football journey began in Incheon United's youth system before he made a significant move to Bayern Munich's academy in 2018, becoming the first South Korean to play for the club. Despite limited first-team opportunities, he gained valuable experience with Bayern Munich II, tallying 26 goals in 62 appearances.

In 2019, Jeong transferred to SC Freiburg, where he developed into a reliable attacking midfielder over four seasons, making 84 appearances and scoring 10 goals.  A subsequent move to VfB Stuttgart in 2023 saw limited playing time, leading to his loan to Union Berlin.

At Union, Jeong quickly became an integral part of the team's attacking setup. He made 23 appearances in the 2024–25 season, contributing three goals and two assists.  His season was unfortunately cut short due to an injury sustained on matchday 27 against Freiburg.

Internationally, Jeong has been a valuable asset for South Korea, earning 22 caps and scoring four goals.  He was part of the U-23 squad that clinched the gold medal at the 2022 Asian Games, a victory that granted him an exemption from South Korea's mandatory military service.

Off the pitch, Jeong is set to marry Lee Yeon-ji, the daughter of veteran actor Lee Kwang-gi, on June 15 in Seoul. The couple met through mutual acquaintances before the COVID-19 pandemic and began dating in the spring of 2024.

Jeong's permanent move to Union Berlin marks a new chapter in his career, as he continues to establish himself as a key player in one of Europe's top leagues.
