Japan international Daizen Maeda is reportedly in negotiations to extend his contract with Celtic, despite mounting interest from several Premier League clubs, including Leeds United, West Ham United, and Tottenham Hotspur. According to Football Insider, the Scottish champions are hoping to secure a lucrative new deal with the 27-year-old forward, who has emerged as a key figure at Parkhead.

Maeda, who joined Celtic from Yokohama F. Marinos in the winter of the 2021–22 season, enjoyed a standout campaign last year. He made 51 appearances across all competitions and scored 33 goals, stepping up impressively after the departure of Kyogo Furuhashi. His contributions were instrumental in helping Brendan Rodgers’ side claim a domestic double, lifting both the Scottish Premiership and the League Cup.

His performances have not gone unnoticed, with multiple English clubs reportedly monitoring his situation. However, journalist Pete O’Rourke revealed on Football Insider’s podcast that Maeda is currently in advanced talks with Celtic and is open to staying — provided the club’s vision aligns with his personal ambitions.

“The Japan international is said to be very happy at Parkhead,” O’Rourke stated. “Negotiations are progressing, and while there is Premier League interest, a new deal with Celtic is moving closer.”

It’s understood that Celtic are offering improved terms to reflect Maeda’s growing importance and fend off potential suitors. His current market value has been estimated at around £25 million — a figure that underscores just how valuable he has become to the Scottish giants.

As the new season approaches, all eyes will be on whether Maeda opts to commit his future to Celtic or pursues a step up to the English top flight. Either way, his next move could prove decisive for both his career and the Hoops’ title ambitions.
