Los Angeles FC were held to a 1-1 draw away at FC Dallas.
The South Korean forward produced a moment of brilliance with a sixth-minute free-kick — a strike described as “fit for the Louvre” by team-mate Nkosi Tafari — but insisted the result took the shine off an otherwise special evening.
Reflecting on the match, Son said:
“I think overall we dominated the game. It wasn’t a really difficult day, but in the final third we broke down a little. We created chances but not scoring goals throughout the game is really disappointing.”
Settling into MLS
The 33-year-old has been in Los Angeles for just over a fortnight but has already made a decisive impact with a penalty won, an assist, and now a first goal in three appearances. Still, Son stressed he is continuing to adapt.
“Certainly I’m settling in. I still need a lot of time to connect with the team — it’s only been just over two weeks. But I’m enjoying every single moment. I’m glad I scored my first goal for MLS and also for LAFC, but for me the most important thing was to get us three points. I’m really disappointed about that.”
Looking Ahead to San Diego
LAFC now return home to face in-state rivals San Diego FC next weekend, in what will be Son’s first match at BMO Stadium. The forward underlined the importance of rest and preparation after three consecutive away fixtures.
“We have to recover well, especially after the long travelling with three away games — it was really tough. Now we have a full week to recover and prepare properly for the important game. I can’t wait to play at home because it’s my first home match for LAFC, and against a good opponent as well. We have to prepare well and recover well to get the three points.”
Son’s debut weeks in MLS have already delivered a penalty, an assist, and a free-kick masterpiece. Yet the player himself made clear that his sights remain firmly set on victories, not just headlines.
