Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has reportedly filed a criminal complaint with South Korean police, alleging blackmail by a woman in her 20s who falsely claimed to be pregnant, according to an exclusive report by South Korea TV channels of comprehensive programming MBN.
The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul is currently investigating two individuals: a woman in her 20s, referred to as Ms. A, and a man in his 40s, Mr. B, on suspicion of attempted extortion.
According to Son’s legal representatives, Ms. A allegedly contacted the player in June of last year, claiming she was pregnant with his child. She then reportedly demanded several hundred million Korean won (equivalent to hundreds of thousands of U.S. dollars), which Son’s side insists was an effort to extort money through fabricated claims.
MBN further reports that Son’s camp believes the pair made a renewed attempt recently to extract tens of millions of won in additional payments.
Police are currently questioning those involved to clarify the full circumstances of the case. Neither Son nor his agency has issued an official public statement as of yet.
Son, one of Asia’s most prominent footballers, serves as both Tottenham’s skipper and a key figure for the South Korean national team.
