Japan international Hidemasa Morita could be on the brink of a major summer move, with Premier League clubs circling the Sporting CP midfielder ahead of a potentially pivotal transfer window.

The 30-year-old has been a mainstay in the heart of Sporting’s midfield, playing a crucial role in the Portuguese giants’ recent league title triumph. But according to Japanese media reports, Morita has rejected a contract extension beyond June 2026, signalling his intent to test himself in a new environment — with England the likely destination.

Freshly-promoted Leeds United have emerged as a serious contender, keen to add Morita’s experience and composure to their squad as they prepare for life back in the Premier League. Talks are reportedly ongoing, but a deal could hinge on how the two clubs settle on a transfer fee.

Morita turned 30 earlier this month, and with time ticking on his prime years, a move this summer would make more sense than waiting for free agency in 2026. While remaining at Sporting for one more season remains a possibility, it’s understood Morita is eager to make the leap to a top-five European league as soon as possible.

Intriguingly, there’s also a possible reunion with former manager Rúben Amorim on the table. The current Manchester United boss, who previously coached Morita at Sporting, is said to be a long-time admirer of the midfielder — and with United facing a midfield overhaul this summer, that link cannot be ruled out.

Whether Morita becomes Leeds’ Premier League linchpin or joins forces once again with Amorim in Manchester, one thing is certain: this summer could define the next—and possibly final—chapter of his European adventure.
