Saudi giants Al Ahli have made contact with former Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou, as reported by The Athletic's David Ornstein. The Australian coach is under serious consideration should the club decide to part ways with current boss Matthias Jaissle, who has so far rejected multiple offers to extend his contract.

Postecoglou, dismissed by Spurs in June despite delivering their first major trophy in 17 years — a Europa League triumph over Manchester United — is reportedly in fast-moving discussions with the AFC Champions League Elite winners. A move to Al Ahli would mark his first foray into Middle Eastern football, following stints in Australia, Greece, Japan, Scotland, and most recently England.

Jaissle remains under contract until 2026 and recently guided Al Ahli to their maiden AFC Champions League title in May. However, with the 37-year-old turning down fresh terms, the club — one of four owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) — has started exploring alternatives.

Also on their radar is former Barcelona manager Xavi, who has been without a club since being sacked by Barça in May. The Spaniard led the Catalan side to a La Liga title in his debut season but was dismissed after a turbulent second year.

Postecoglou’s exit from Tottenham followed a disastrous domestic campaign that saw the North London club finish 17th in the Premier League, winning just 11 league games and suffering 22 losses — a record number for a non-relegated side in the Premier League era. Injuries plagued the squad throughout the season, with key players such as Cristian Romero, James Maddison, and Richarlison all sidelined for lengthy spells.

Al Ahli’s next coach will inherit a star-studded squad featuring Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino, and Ivan Toney, reflecting the club’s continued ambition under PIF’s backing.

As talks progress swiftly, Postecoglou could be set for a dramatic return to the touchline in a new and ambitious environment — one that now boasts continental champions and no shortage of star power.
