Eintracht Frankfurt have officially confirmed the signing of Japanese international Ritsu Doan from SC Freiburg, marking a major addition to their attacking ranks ahead of the new Bundesliga campaign.

The 27-year-old winger has put pen to paper on a contract running until June 30, 2030, signalling the club’s long-term belief in the player’s quality and potential. Doan will wear the number 20 shirt for the Eagles.

Proven Bundesliga Pedigree

Doan arrives in Frankfurt following a successful two-year stint at SC Freiburg, where he matured into one of the Bundesliga's most consistent performers. In 123 competitive appearances for the Breisgau side, he tallied 26 goals and 23 assists – numbers that underscore his attacking influence. Last season alone, Doan was directly involved in 18 Bundesliga goals (10 goals, 8 assists), playing a pivotal role in Freiburg’s qualification for European competition.

Born in Amagasaki, Japan, Doan began his professional career with Gamba Osaka before making the leap to Europe in 2017. He spent four seasons in the Netherlands with FC Groningen and PSV Eindhoven, racking up 130 appearances, 29 goals, and 13 assists across all competitions. During the 2020/21 season, he made his Bundesliga debut on loan with Arminia Bielefeld, contributing five goals and three assists to help the club avoid relegation.

International Calibre

Doan has also become a mainstay in the Japanese national team since making his senior debut in 2018. With 57 caps, 10 goals, and nine assists to his name, he featured prominently in Japan's recent major tournament campaigns and is widely regarded as one of the most technically gifted players in the Samurai Blue setup.

Eintracht Frankfurt's sporting director Markus Krösche expressed delight at the club's latest acquisition:

“Ritsu Doan has consistently demonstrated his quality in the Bundesliga over the past few seasons. He brings technical ability, pace, and a strong mentality — attributes that align perfectly with our ambitions. As a regular for the Japanese national team, he also brings a wealth of international experience. We're very pleased to welcome him to Eintracht Frankfurt.”

Doan’s arrival marks another step in Frankfurt’s efforts to build a squad capable of challenging domestically and in Europe, as the club looks to return to the continental stage with renewed purpose.
