Who is the new boss for Korean national football team?
Korea achieved its goal at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Portuguese Paulo Bento led Korea to the round of 16.
The Korean people wanted to renew the contract with Bento. However, the Korea Football Association and Bento could not reach an agreement. After all, after the World Cup, Korea has to find a new boss.
South Korea is looking for the right leader for the World Cup four years later. The KFA has decided on Michael Muller as the head of the National Team Strengthening Committee.
Michael Muller has the right to appoint Korea's new national team coach. He must lead a new committee and select the leader of the Taegeuk Warriors.
KFA had already completed the selection of the first round of candidates before Michael Muller took office. However, Michael Muller said in a press conference that he would look for a new manager 'with a blank slate'.
According to sources, 10 people are already in the KFA's shortlist, with Vahid Halilhodzic and Marcelo Bielsa posting their resumes.
Halihodzic has coached the national teams of Japan and Morocco. He also coached professional teams in France and Turkey. Born in Argentina, Marcelo Bielsa has experience managing the national teams of Argentina and Chile. He has coached at Athletic Bilbao and others.
However, some reported that Michael Muller could contact Jurgen Klinsmann. Jurgen Klinsmann can only touch Klinsmann when looking at his tendencies. He is a former striker and manager of the German national football team and has previously managed the German national football team and the United States national football team. He recently played at the World Cup in Qatar as a member of the FIFA Technical Study Group (TSG).
Of course, KFA chairman Chung Mong-kyu could also have an impact. According to what is known, Jeong Mong-gyu prefers foreign managers. Some Korean footballers want a Korean coach.
However, according to a survey by 'Korea Research', 56% of Koreans said "nationality does not matter" to the new boss. KFA plans to select the final candidates during this month, check their capabilities through interviews, and conduct individual negotiations in accordance with priorities in February to complete the appointment.
