South Korean international striker Song Min-kyu has moved from Pohang Steelers to Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors.

Jeonbuk Hyundai announced on July 20 that it signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Song Min-kyu.

According to sources, Jeonbuk has successfully signed the contract by offering 1.8 million dollars to the Pohang Steelers.

Song Min-kyu rejected Jeonbuk Hyundai's transfer proposal earlier this year. The Korean Olympic winger said he prefers to enter Europe.

However, the Pohang Steelers accepted Jeonbuk's offer due to worsening financial conditions.

Jeonbuk has inserted a buyout clause to facilitate negotiations if Song Min-kyu gets a European proposal.

The buyout amount inserted by Jeonbuk is known to be lower than the transfer fee paid in Pohang.

Greek Super League club Olympiacos sent a letter to Pohang last month to recruit Song Min-kyu.

The transfer fee of at least 1 million euros requested by Pohang was not met, which broke down.

In addition to Olympiacos, there have been proposals from German second-tier clubs and Belgian first-tier clubs, but negotiations have not progressed due to transfer conditions after the loan.

Five European clubs were interested in Song Min-kyu.

However, Song has yet to solve the military service problem.

Song Min-kyu, who is participating in the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, will be exempt from military service if he wins at least a bronze medal.

South Korea lost to New Zealand 0-1 in Group B at the Olympics.

The 21-year-old forward still has a chance to serve in the military. South Korea will participate in the 2022 Guangzhou Asian Games. Athletes who win gold medals at the Asian Games will be given a military service exemption.

Song Min-kyu, who started his professional career with the Pohang Steelers in 2018, has scored 19 goals and 9 assists in 72 K-League games so far. He was selected as the Young Player of the Year for the K League 1.

Song Min-kyu, who plays the left wing and striker position, is called "Next Son Heung-min" because he can shoot with both feet and has a daredevil dribbling ability.
