Paulo Bento announced South Korean national team on the final schedule of the third round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifying round against Iran and the United Arab Emirates in March.
Bento held a press conference at the KFA House on Monday morning to explain about players.
For the South Korean national team, Rubin Kazan midfielder Hwang In-beom and Schalke 04 midfielder Lee Dong-Gyung were injured.
Attention was paid to whether midfielder Son Jun-ho, who led the Chinese Super League title in the 2021 season, will be called up. Son Jun-ho has recently received strong attention from the English Championship Club Fulham.
Fulham is expected to send scouts to the match between South Korea and Iran on March 24 to directly check Son Jun-ho's performance.
However, Bento did not convene Son Jun-ho. In addition, Kang Sang-woo, a fullback who sang in the A match in January, was also excluded.
Bento made an amazing decision to select Suwon FC left-back Park Min-kyu, and midfielder Kim Jin-Gyu (Busan I-Park), center back Lee Jae-ik (Seoul E-Land) who play in the K League 2 were also called up.
Regarding the reason why Son Joon-ho and Kang Sang-woo were not called up, Bento said, "They are all previously selected players and will be considered in the future." "We selected other players because of their situation," he said.
China still maintains strict self-quarantine guidelines for overseas arrivals after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Son Jun-ho, has to self-isolate for three weeks if he goes to the national team, so there will be a big problem in his team's participation in the game and maintaining its condition.
Son Jun-ho, noted by Fulham and Southampton, could be called by Bento if he moves to England this summer.
