Son Heung-min, the 'captain' of the Korean national football team, held a ceremony to welcome his teammate Son Jun-ho, who was detained by Chinese authorities after scoring a goal in the away game in Thailand and was released after 10 months.
Son Heung-min scored Korea's second goal and led Korea to a 3-0 victory in the 4th game of Group C of the 2026 North and Central America World Cup Asia 2nd qualifying round against Thailand held at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on the 26th.
Although it was not captured on the broadcast screen, in the video released by the Korea Football Association through the YouTube channel 'Inside Cam' on the 27th, Son Heung-min hugged Lee Kang-in (Paris Saint-Germain), who ran towards him and hugged him after scoring in the 9th minute of the second half, and then walked toward the stands. While moving, he found the Inside Cam camera on his left and suddenly changed direction and ran towards the camera.
He then shouted, “Welcome back Junho!” and continued the ceremony by clenching his fists towards the fans.
The reason why Son Heung-min held such a ceremony was to welcome the return of Son Jun-ho, who was released after about 10 months in detention by the Chinese authorities.
