Yang Min-hyeok made a good impression in his debut match for Queens Park Rangers.
Yang Min-hyeok was substituted for Ilias Chair in the 31st minute of the second half of the 30th round away match of the 2024-2025 English Championship (2nd division) against Millwall at The Den in London, England. It was Yang Min-hyeok's first time playing in an English professional football match. He played on the pitch until the end of the match.
Yang Min-hyeok, born in 2006, signed a contract with Tottenham in July of last year while playing for Gangwon FC in the K League 1. He joined Tottenham in mid-December of last year after finishing the K League season. After taking some time to adjust, he officially signed a contract with Tottenham in January 2025.
The atmosphere was strangely flowing. He never set foot on the ground for Tottenham. Tottenham Hotspur manager Anje Postecoglou said of Yang Min-hyeok ahead of the 20th round home game of the 2024-2025 English Premier League (EPL) season against Newcastle, "There are no plans at the moment. We are just letting him adapt. Yang Min-hyeok is still young and came from the other side of the world, not up to the level of the league he will face here. We will give him time to adapt. We are trying to give him a chance to settle in quickly. There are no special plans yet, and we will proceed according to his adaptation." In reality, Yang Min-hyeok did not receive an opportunity at Tottenham.
He took on a new challenge. Yang Min-hyeok was eventually transferred to Queens Park Rangers (QPR) on loan to play in the game. He made his debut three days after his transfer.
Yang Min-hyeok, who was watching the game from the bench that day, was brought in as a right-wing attacker in the 31st minute of the second half when the team was down 1-2.
His official playing time was not long, at 14 minutes. However, Yang Min-hyeok left an impressive performance, such as firing a powerful shot from the right flank just one minute after stepping on the ground.
According to SofaScore, a soccer statistics company, Yang Min-hyeok recorded 1 effective shot, 9 touches, and a 100% pass success rate (all 4 attempts were successful).
The British media BBC evaluated that 'Yang Min-hyeok showed a lively appearance as a substitute, giving us a glimpse of what kind of offensive talent he can bring to QPR's offense.' Another media outlet, London World, gave Yang Min-hyeok a team-high score of 7 points that day.
